Children in Need Giant Cheques from
Ringwood
FURLONG’S CHILDREN IN NEED GIANT CHEQUE
Furlong Shopping Centre traders in Ringwood pose with some of the
200 children who performed in the Furlong Festival of Young Talent in
October to help raise money for Children in need. The are displaying
the giant cheque showing the £2,547 they all helped to collect. Also
displayed is a cheque from Waitrose, showing the £500 they donated to
the fund.
Several of the children performing in the Furlong talent appeared on
BBC television and radio on their respective Children in need shows.
These included 21 year old Katherine Bond from Highcliffe, 10 year old
Jonathan Howell from Bournemouth, 13 year old Megan Pitt from Ringwood
with her father Andy, 14 year old Victoria Eldon from Verwood,
Ringwood's Forest Forge, and Danceworks, plus New Forest School of
Dance.
Funds were raised on the day with the youngsters collecting in buckets
after they had performed, the Furlong shopkeepers collected money by
having promotions, Cosmetique raffled a hamper of beauty products
during their late night beauty evening, and the Furlong Pine shop sold
off their flood damaged flooring for Children in Need, raising £70.
Albert Hamlin, Ringwood funfair proprietor brought his roundabout to
the Furlong for the day with all £67 proceeds going to the fund. The
Furlong owners Universal Consolidated Group donated £500 as did
Waitrose. Pudsey Bear also scampered about the Furlong with his bucket
collecting enthusiastically.
Said event organiser Belinda Charlton: "It was a real triumph,
everyone was so keen. The youngsters thoroughly enjoyed performing and
everyone got caught up with the excitement. We shall definitely do
this again".
