RINGWOOD JUBILEE 1952 DAY

Sally Adams Danceworks School Youngsters from Dance Crazy in Bournemouth

Ringwood sizzled in the hot sun to the sounds and sights of the 50s as the Furlong Centre celebrated the Queens Jubilee with a 1952 Day. The day started with the Ringwood Town Crier opening the proceedings with the Mayor and the newly crowned Jubilee Prince and Princess, Ben Sheet and Stephanie Stevens.

Youngsters danced jived and sang with uninhibited enthusiasm and happily wore the clothes and hairstyles of the 50s era. Sally Adams Danceworks, rocked and rolled, Bournemouth Dance Crazy youngsters gave incredibly slick and professional jiving demonstrations. New Forest School of Dance rocked around the clock. Forest Forge Youth Theatre were unstoppable. Exuberant dancing, chatting each other up, combing hair, chewing gum and doing everything youngsters did in the 50s. They truly evoked an era.

Fashion Show

One of the highlights of the day was the fashion show put on by Sally Rees of Ringwood School with some of the boys and girls from the school and from Arnwood School in New Milton. The authentic clothes were supplied by Eclectic of New Milton run by Ann Ponting. The fashion show was stunning with a fascinating commentary from Sally Rees and some truly professional models.

Big Little Theatre Show

The day culminated with a fantastic performance from the Big Little Theatre School who sang songs from musicals of the 50s with the grand finale of God Save the Queen.

Novelty 50s band High Jinx filled in the gaps, with Dave Woodbury playing sounds from the Big Bands. Colin Harrison of Eastfield Electric's supplied cars, trucks, bikes and memorabilia of the era.

Organiser Belinda Charlton said: "It was a wonderful day, In fact much better than I expected. Everything seemed to come together beautifully, and I don't think I have seen so much young talent in so short a space of time. Because of them it was so fresh and young, and not a whiff of mothballs."
