Furlong Wedding
The lucky couple to win the fantastic £6,000 wedding competition
and be the first ever couple to marry in a shopping centre, are
secretary Ann-Marie Sawden of High Street Ringwood (25), and window
cleaner Richard McFarlane of Winton Bournemouth (33).
The couple will be in the Furlong Shopping Centre, Ringwood posing
with some of their wedding presents donated by Furlong traders at
2.30p.m. on Friday May 17th 2002.
They will be looking and testing a Pine double bed from the Furlong
Pine shop, and choosing a Wedding Cake supplied by Waitrose,
inspecting a range of rings offered by Roberts Jewellers, and deciding
whether they want a years supply of cat or dog food from Pampurred
Pets. These are just some of the dozens of wedding presents being
donated by the Furlong along with the costs of the wedding itself and
the reception. The couple first met a year ago in the White Hart Hotel
in Ringwood where Richard was doing temporary work as a doorman on
their lively Friday and Saturday nights. They further got to know each
other over a coffee and lunch at Frampton's Mill. Restaurant in the
Furlong Centre.
Ann-Marie works as a secretary at Ellis Jones solicitors in Ringwood,
and Richard now has a window cleaning business. Said Ann-Maria
"Richard proposed on December 9th just before I went up to
Scotland to meet his family. He went down on one knee and gave me a
diamond ring. We knew we couldn't possible afford a proper wedding so
winning this wedding is a dream come true. We are so excited I keep
pinching myself to make sure it is true."
Said Richard "I 'm thrilled. I have a huge family in Scotland and
I can't wait to show them the Furlong and Ringwood town. We always
knew we didn't want a conventional wedding in a church or registry
office, so this is perfect."
The couple will probably be marrying on September 8th at Frampton Mill
Restaurant in the Furlong. This will be the first wedding that
Frampton's Mill owners Steve and Carol Allen will have organised in
the Furlong. They will be catering the event in a marquee attached to
the building, the service will be performed in the restaurant by the
local Registrar. A horse and cart will be the wedding vehicle, and
flowers and champagne are being donated by Jon Grant of Grants of
Ringwood and Dominic Lavery of Lavery and Lavery estate agents.
Cosmetique are offering the bride a special make up for her big day
and Ultimate are offering dry cleaning for the bride and grooms
outfits. Peacocks are donating sheets and pillowcases and Millets a
cash voucher. £100 vouchers are coming from Body and Soul and MCS
Computers while London Discount are offering a food hamper.
An offer from Toys of Ringwood of £100 worth of toys for their first
child will probably be collected rather later.
The couple hope to live in Ringwood and are saving to buy a house.
Anne-Marie is a third generation Ringwood girl, her mother's maiden
name is Margaret Lowe and lives at Ringwood, Queensway. Ann-Marie has
two older brothers Richard 28 who owns the New Chinatown Restaurant in
Southampton Road, second brother Adrian 31 lives abroad. She has three
younger sisters all at Ringwood Comprehensive school Tracey (16),
Hayley (14) and Natalie (12) and they will probably be bridesmaids.
