Easter Bonnet Parade 2001

Winners Will I do for Ringwood in Bloom? More winners

The Ringwood Easter Bonnet Parade was a sparkling success with record number of entries. Over 100 children turned up at the Furlong Centre with their Easter Bonnets or dressed as bunnies to win Easter eggs and Furlong shopping vouchers.
Said organiser Belinda Charlton, "The competitions were a great success. We had so many entries for the six and under category it was difficult for the judges to see them all properly. So next year we will add some extra prizes and split this category, so there will be four classes, 4 and under, 6 and under, 8 and under and 13 and under."
Despite being very chilly, the children and their mums and dads, watched Count Backwards perform magic, and saw the debut of Miss Lynn's school of dance, with five little girls ages 6 and 7 dancing from Cats.

The judges, Mayor Danny Cracknell, his wife Di, local artist Monica Coleman, and Carnival queen Elisa Charlton, had great difficulty selecting from a magnificent array of hats and bunny costumes. Each child who entered received a small egg as a gift.
The Easter Egg Hunt had children racing around the Furlong Centre counting the eggs in the shop windows to win a giant egg. The winner who counted 45 eggs whose name was first pulled out of the bucket, was Nathan Shiels of Wimborne.
At noon, the children piled onto Robert Samson's new cart pulled by his two Percheron horses, Trojan and Prince. They were decorated with flowers by local florist Patricia, and paraded around the town. The Dolphin Marching Band, who have been booked to play in Disney World in Florida in the summer, led the procession. Heather Brooks and her donkeys, Cinderella and Pedra, followed close behind wearing their Easter Bonnets.

The winners of the Easter Bonnet Competition were:
Six and under: 1st Maisie Wheeler-Holes (5yrs); 2nd Zoe Hall (6); 3rd Sian Loader (3).
Nine and under: 1st Jo Penfold (9); 2nd Marsha Cottley (9); 3rd Rupert Hopkins (9).
Fourteen and under: 1st Saffron Harrison (10); 2nd Jonathan Hazel (11); 3rd Jade Harrison (11).
The winners of the Bunnies were:
1st Abby Lightfoot (2); 2nd Leana Galston (3); and 3rd Fergus Johnson-Martin (6).

The tombola stall in aid of the New Forest Scouts raised £100.

Me, me, me, me..... The three Bunnies...
